    I also had a similar problem with my chainsaw. The saw only makes a whirring sound when the start button is pressed but does not run.

    Check if the saw's safety lock or trigger is engaged. The saw won't start with the safety on drift hunters. Try pressing the lock-off button as you pull the trigger.

    Promotional products bought a new Craftsman Circular saw Cmc551. installed blade, inserted battery and saw just makes a whirring noise when the start button is pushed.  Craftsman sent me a new saw. The new saw does the same thing. Am I doing something wrong?

    I bought a new 20V Max circular saw with a electronic brake and I found out the problem, it's not the saw it's in the brake design all it is a rubber stopper it doesn't engage or disengage when you pull the trigger or let off the trigger, I notified craftsman about the problem more than once, but they could care less this could be a safety issue or a lawsuit
