Does anyone know why it is Stanley is unable to make screwdrivers of the quality seen in past decades?

Are they simply trying to make us buy more of them by having them made out of such soft metal?

Wouldn't more sales be lost from people avoiding the brand after learning of these quality issues?

  p.s. Case-in-point I have been considering buying near the entire range of Stanley battery products.

  This will now not be happening.
