Craftsman lithium riding mower - PTO doesn't engage

This is a new mower. 30" battery powered brushless 56v.
The PTO button does not turn on.
Manual states to:
1. Turn mower on
2. Hold PTO button for 3 seconds
The button does blink during the 3 seconds: however it does not stay lit nor do the blades engage.
Please help!
