60v String Trimmer

I'm having trouble with my string trimmer head. After I refill the trimmer, the string seems to come out all at once and wraps around head, etc. The head is designed to only turn in one direction (until it tapped on the ground), but mine seems to be able to turn in both directions. Any guesses what's going wrong? It's nearly new.
