The No. 1 Smooth plane was manufactured between the years of 1867 and 1943. It's dimensions were 5 25/32 inches long and 1 17/32 inches wide. The cutter was 1 1/4 inches wide. It was made of cast iron with a rosewood handle and knob. The finish was Japanned. Many old time carpenters used this plane for final trim adjustments because it was small enough to fit nicely into the side pocket of a carpenter's overalls and could be operated by one hand. Unfortunately, Stanley no longer has parts for this plane.
