 Step 1: Pull down the locking mechanism. 



Step 2: Select the proper angle you want to use, between 25, 30 or 35 degrees. Most chisels and plane irons (blades) are beveled at 25 degrees. 



Step 3: Insert the iron and lock it in place.

 

Step 4:  Place the iron and honing guide right side up onto the sharpening surface. Use the included oil and slide forwards and back. 



Step 5:  Remove the iron then flatten the rear by sliding side to side.



Step 6: On a scrap piece of wood, rub the iron side to side to finish honing.
